Is it possible to upgrade the video card in my gateway laptop?

I’ve got a gateway laptop, m-series with a video card that has only 128 mb ram. I’m assuming this is shared with the system. The cards pretty slow, Its an ATI Radeon X1200 series.
Is it possible to swap this card like is possible in a desktop?

How much would it cost to install a new motherboard in a Dell laptop??

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and I took it to a computer place that said the motherboard is damaged and needs to be replaced. Just wondering how much that will cost and if I should just get a new computer. The laptop is about 3 years old.
