Cheap Laptops and More

We have Netgear wi-fi router in our home. Our son has an Apple laptop. We don't want him to be IMing etc. when doing homework. Is there a way to disable internet function without unplugging the router? Unplugging router works but then no one else can be on line either.

I royally messed up my computer by installing a new OS and forgot to back up my drivers beforehand… My computer is a Gateway #ML6732 i am running XP SP3 on it right now… any help would be awesome… thank you
